When the light comes on, the wood reveals its secret

By day the shade is pale, quiet birch. Turn it on and the figure hidden in the grain appears. The pattern is not a surface finish. It has grown into the wood over decades.

The lamp switched off: a pale birch cylinder

No two are alike

Most lamps are designed to be identical. A Nordic Birch Glow cannot be. Its figure is drawn by nature, so every lamp carries a pattern that exists only once.

The simple cylinder keeps the attention on the wood. It suits Scandinavian and modern interiors, and anywhere natural materials are given room.

Grown for a generation in Heinävesi

Only a small share of birches grow curly, which makes the wood rare. Ours comes from Heinävesi in eastern Finland, beside Kolovesi National Park.

Its story began during the recession of the 1990s, when a local grower decided to raise something for the generations to come. Every stage has been in the same hands, from seed to sawn blank. The trees were sown, planted, tended, pruned, thinned, harvested and sawn with care. Each growth ring holds decades of patience.

Made by hand, one lamp at a time

  1. Choosing the wood

    Each piece of curly birch is selected by hand.

  2. Reading the figure

    We check the pattern so it shows at its best when lit.

  3. Finishing

    Every shade is finished and inspected on its own.

  4. Assembly

    The lamp is assembled and checked before it leaves us.

We make only small batches. The limit is set by the forest, not by us.
